- Helping Your Child With Autism Get a Good Night’s Sleep – Web MD June 20, 2012During the first few months of life, babies ease into a normal cycle of sleep and wakefulness. My six year old daughter has never been great about bedtime routines. I finally broke down and let her watch TV for an hour prior to definite sleep time. She sleeps fine now, and despite me not wanting to do it, it has worked for her. My son at one point had this fear, that we could not pinpoint. I would find him up wandering around at night, peering out the windows with this terrified look on his face. At first I thought it was bad dreams. This went on for a bit before I insisted he tell me what was wrong. He had watched Jurassic Park 3 and it had scared the devil out of him. He literally thought that the farm down the road was really a dinosaur lab that was making T rex specifically to get him. Needless to say there were no scary movies for a long while and I had to go on Youtube to show him how the movie was actually made and what he thought was completely impossible.

I think I am going to need to figure out how to help my son sleep better. He’s telling me now that he wakes up often during the night and sometimes has trouble going back to sleep.
